Cetinje Monastery (Cetinje-Montenegro)
The Cetinje Monastery is one of the main attractions in Cetinje, and it was built in 1701 according to the order of Danilo Petrović. It was erected on the site of the destroyed courtyard of Ivan Crnojević and the base of the complex is a single-nave church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. At the entrance there are tombs with the remains of king Danilo Petrović and Duke Mirko Petrović. There are two great Christian relics in the monastery – John the Baptist’s hand and the Particles of the Holy Cross of the Lord. You can here find a monastery museum which is the most important museological institution of this kind in Montenegro. When entering the monastery, there is a certain dress code – You must not be in shorts and women must be covered. At the entrance to the monastery You can get a scarf or a veil. In front of the monastery there is a drinking water jug.
