Chapel of St. Roch
Chapel of St. Roch
The chapel of St. Roch was built in 1796 on the Valpovo Green hill. At its front, on the facade is a text written in Latin, from which you can learn that the chapel was built by the nobleman Baron Josip Ignac Hilleprand of Prandau. The chapel was adorned with late Baroque details, but they were all removed during the restoration in 1860. That was when neo-Romanesque features appeared, such as a bell cote, which is more characteristic for the Mediterranean, rather than continental churches. Also, during the above mentioned restoration, the chapel has become a tomb of this Valpovo noble family and in its crypts twenty members of the family were buried.
