Church of St Aloysius
Church of St Aloysius (Maribor-Slovenia)
The church of St. Aloysius is known for its beautiful late Baroque style and is located at the Maribor main square. Beside the late Baroque architecture, this church is also distinguished by the Rococo fence built in 1769.The church was built by Johannes Fuchs and equipped by Jožef Holzinger. The interior is adorned by the main altar and the statues of St. Peter and St. Andrew. There is also an interesting painting representing the three Styria cities. The famous painter Gianpaolo Tunner made the altar painting of St. Aloysius and the Maribor landscape, whereas the artist Kuppelwieser painted the pictures of St. Victorian, the city of Ptuj, and St. Maximillian and the city of Celje, all of which together make the panorama of the above mentioned cities from the 19th century. The church was closed in 1784, when the Jesuit order was abolished, but was again inaugurated in 1831.
