Church of St. Florian (Varaždin)
Since Varaždin was repeatedly destroyed by numerous fires, in 1669 the citizens built a votive church outside the city walls in honor of St. Florian, the patron against fire. It was built on the site of a wooden church which had stood there until 1733. In 1777, it acquired its present Baroque style appearance. In the church’s interior, decorated with beautiful murals, one can find a valuable Baroque inventory consisting of the main altar of St. Florian from 1740, side altars of St. Lucia and St. Apollonius, and the pulpit from almost the same year. Next to the church, the Varaždin Xenodochia – the city almshouse was built.
