Church of St. Mary
Church of St. Mary
The church of St. Mary was built in the 16th century, on the location of a former 13th century church bearing the same name. Initially, it was a small church built in the Gothic style, while in the 18th century it became a three-nave church with a belfry. The church’s interior is adorned with the main, marble altar guarded by the statues of St. Peter and Paul. The church also boasts a pulpit with the wonderful relief that shows St. John the Baptist preaching. Since this church was not demolished in the 1880 earthquake, the holy Mass was held in it while the cathedral was being restored.
