City Museum (Herceg Novi-Montenegro)
The City Museum, also called the Native Museum, is about 800 meters away from the Old town of Herceg Novi. The house was owned by the former mayor of Herceg Novi, Mirko Komnenović and his wife Olga. He spoke four world languages, and the knowledge he had gained abroad used for the betterment of the city. He contributed to the development of the city and the construction of the “Boka” Hotel and its garden, leaving his house as a legacy to the city. The house was, according to his wishes, transformed into a City Museum and was opened in 1953. The house was built in the late 18th century in late-Baroque style, and its appearance was changed in the 19th century. Below the small balcony there are doors in which the names of Russian soldiers from 1807 were engraved by bayonets. The City Museum preserves a historical, archaeological and enthronical collection. One of the most significant icons in the collection is the icon of the apostle Thomas from 1833.
