Beram
Beram
Beram is a small village located on a hill above a fertile valley and has been inhabited since the Iron Age. The entrance to the village begins with Mala and Vela gates which lead you to the rest of the village. Outside the Beram fort there was a necropolis, a place where the deceased were buried and cremated. Beram was first mentioned in the grant of King Berengar from 911 which was dedicated to the bishop of Trieste. In the Middle Ages, in order to defend themselves from enemies and keep them at a distance, the people of Beram built a square tower, beneath which there is a secret passage to the cave Jamorina.
