In the 1991 census, there were 20,365 inhabitants in Donji Miholjac, and 90% of the population were Croats. The first record of Donji Miholjac dates from the 11th century and is linked to the construction of the late Baroque church of St. Michael. The Baroque altar is dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel, after whom the parish church was named. The Prandau castle, the former seat of the aristocratic Prandau family, was built in 1818 in the late Baroque style. The park in Donji Miholjac covers an area of 10 hectares and is located in the city centre.
