Senj
Senj is the oldest city in the upper part of the Adriatic – it was founded in the pre-Roman times around 3000 years ago. It was the main centre of the Illyrian tribe of Japodi. Nowadays Senj is situated at the foot of the hills of Kapela and Velebit. The symbol of the city, the Nehaj Fortress, also known as the Nehaj tower, is located on the hill Nehaj. It was completed in 1558 and had been the seat of Uskoci until they were expelled from the city in 1617, after the Habsburg Monarchy made peace with the Venetians. Senj is situated in the Lika-Senj County. It is also a part of the Diocese of Gospić-Senj and the Archdiocese of Rijeka within the Roman Catholic Church.
