Croatia

Croatia is famous for its beautiful and clean sea, excellent local and national specialties, a rich historical heritage and unspoilt nature. Croatia is located in the heart of Europe, and is associated with a number of other countries by maritime, road, rail and air traffic. Croatian history dates back to the 7th century BC, when the current territory was settled by Croats. Turbulent history is marked by the union with Hungary, the Habsburg monarchy and the rule of the Venetian Republic and the Ottoman Empire over the Croatian area. That is the reason why there are numerous monuments, manuscripts and works of art that reflect the diversity as a reflection of the rich cultural history, in Croatia. In order to protect such places rich cultural and historical significance and the beauty of nature, Croatia has eight national parks and seven World Heritage sites. Furthermore, Croatia is known for its mountains, suitable for hiking or skiing as well as lowlands, wetlands, lakes, caves and pits. Besides that, it is characterized by a rugged coastline with many islands. Many European rivers run through Croatia, such as the Danube, Drava and Sava. The country has developed a summer, winter and rural tourism, which attracts a large number of visitors. What makes Croatia the ideal place is the food, which ranges from continental to the Mediterranean, and each part of the country has its own recognizable specialties. The most popular cities, with a wide variety of content for many visitors, are Dubrovnik, Zadar and Split in Dalmatia, Pula, Poreč, Rovinj and Rijeka as part of Istria, Kvarner and Osijek as a part of Slavonia center and Zagreb, the Croatian capital.

Attractions

As a reflection of the rich history, there are many cultural attractions in Croatia. What stands out are the remains or completely preserved parts of the Old Town of Dubrovnik, but also in other Dalmatian towns. Zadar and its Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun perfectly connects history with the modern way of life. Croatia is known worldwide for its oldest national park, Plitvice Lakes. Plitvice Lakes are characterized by extremely blue and turquoise, large number of lakes and waterfalls. Also, other national parks such as Brijuni, Paklenica, Mljet and others stand out. The basilica in Poreč, which was built in the 6th century is also worth visiting. In 1997., the basilica was declared a World Heritage by UNESCO.

Nightlife

In addition to the sights and beautiful nature, Croatia is characterized by a rich nightlife, especially during the summer months. The emphasis is on Zrće for its large number of bars and nightclubs next to the sea. A large number of famous DJ where invited to these clubs, so Zrće is often compared to Ibiza. Moreover, the Ultra Music Festival, which takes place in Split and on the island of Hvar, is very well known. Ultra Music is the most famous house and techno music festival that attracts visitors worldwide. Of the other clubs, Hacijenda in Vodice and Aurora in Primošten certainly stand out. Nightlife is the most developed, throughout the year, in major Croatian cities, especially in Zagreb.

Beaches and islands

The beaches are one of the main reasons for the large number of visitors each year. Clean beaches, surrounded by beautiful untouched nature, with a large number of attractions, are a paradise for all ages. Particularly interesting are the beaches, such as Zlatni Rat, Zrće, Vela plaža in Baška, Bačvice in Split, Zlatne stijene in Pula and many others. One of the special characteristics of the Croatia is its rugged coastline with numerous islands, some of which are protected. Particularly interesting are the islands of Brač, Hvar, Mljet, Pag, Krk, Kornati, Korčula, Brijuni and many others.

Food

Croatia is known for its diverse selection of food. Traditionally, in different parts of the Croatia, different specialties dominate. On the coast, the most common dishes are fish and seafood, prepared as fish soup, mussels, shrimp in sauce and grilled fish. In Slavonia, there are specialties such as stew, goulash, carp and cured meats. Furthermore, Croatia stands out for its distinctly delicious desserts such as fritters, Međimurje gibanica, kotonjada, salenjaci, fig desserts, Rab cake and many others. All these dishes can be found in local restaurants that have a wide range of specialties from all over Croatia.

Weather

Weather in Croatia varies depending on the season and location of certain places as well as relation to the sea. In the inside part of the Croatia, summers are extremely hot and winters are cold, while in the mountains, winters are cold and summers fresh. Croatian Coast area is characterized by warm summers and mild winters, and this part of Croatia is most visited during the summer months, and the Croatian inland, due to snow, is mostly visited during the winter. Adriatic Islands count nearly 3000 hours of sunshine with an average temperature of 21-27 °C (70-80 °F) during the summer and 6-11 °C (43-52 °F) in winter. The inside part of Croatia has the average temperature, during the summer, of 19-23 °C (66-73 °F) and 0-2 °C (32-36 °F) in winter. It is interesting that Croatia, although a small country, has different weather in different areas, due to the positions of mountains, seas and large lowlands.
