Fire Department 1872
The Voluntary Fire Department was established in June 1872 to help the citizens organize in case of unwanted fire. The first assembly was held on October 20th when certain rules of the Association were established, and it was attended by about 150 firefighters. Soon the Voluntary Fire Department (Freiwillger Thurn – und Feuerwehr Verein and Esseg) was the new name of the Association commanded by Joseph Uhl. The rule book of the Association soon came into force. It sought to regulate the behaviour and tasks of individual members within the Association. The headquarters of the company was first located in the home of Matija Hubert, on the intersection of Rokova and Strossmayerova Street, and then Pejačevićeva Street.
