Antonio Gandusio Theater
Antonio Gandusio Theater has long ago earned the epithet of a true Rovinj attraction, and thus also of a Croatian cultural heritage. The Theater is the remnant of Rovinj’s mayor at the end of the 19th century, Nicolo de Califfi. He had designed the outline for this Baroque theater on his own. The building was completed in 1854. The theater was named after one of the greatest theater and film comedians of the Italian “Novecento” period, who was also born in Rovinj in 1873. The popular Gandusio Theater has since its beginnings to the present day been a place of performances of comedy, farce, drama, opera and operetta, events, political and other events, as well as true music and stage rarities such as cavalchinoe, the masked dance featuring the rhythms of mazurkas, waltzes, polkas, and gallop.
