Golden Mountain (Wat Phu Khao Tong) (Ayutthaya-Thailand)
The Wat Phu Khao Thong or the Golden Mountain Temple was built in 1387 and it is located northwest of Ayutthaya in Phukhao Thong sub-district. The original tower was built by King of Hongsawadi in honor of his victory in Ayutthaya. His inheritor built a stupa (something like a chapel) next to the temple. Following the liberation from the Burmese authorities, the Thai king built a Thai-style tower of 80-m high with 2 kg of heavy gold-plated ball on top. In the temple area, there is still an active monastery and the Golden Mountain is very popular attraction among the tourists.
