The Grand Palace is a complex of buildings in the very heart of Bangkok and is the most important and popular attraction there. It is only about 1 km from Khao San Road. The Rabbit recommends You to come here, because it is something You have to experience. More than a hundred years ago, it was the King’s home, and today, even though kings no longer live there, it is still the cradle of power of the entire Thai kingdom. The construction began in 1782 and the palace consists of numerous buildings, halls and pavilions surrounded by lawns and gardens. You will see the Emerald Buddha Temple, various museums and the Royal Court, where the kings are crowned. The complex is surrounded by a wall nearly 2 km long and, after the end of King Chulalongkorn’s rule at the end of the 19th century, the Grand Palace started to be used for royal ceremonies, state banquets and other official events, altough some parts of the palace are not open for the public. Going to the Grand Palace, You can learn a lot about Thailand and get to know the rich history of this land. The tour takes about 3 hours. Since the Grand Palace is the most popular destination among the tourists in Bangkok, be prepared to get stuck in a big crowd.
