Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum (Kanchanaburi-Thailand)

This museum was built to honor all POWs and laborers that died during the construction of the Death Railway. The memorial complex was a joint project of Thai and Australian governments, and it is located 80 km northwest from Kachanaburi. Apart from the museum, there is also a memorial sight at the very Konyu Cutting (or Hellfire Pass, that the museum was named after), and a walking trail that follows the one time railway. Those who decide to take the trail, can expect a 4 hour walking trip that is exhausting, emotional but also beautiful because of Kwae Noi lookout that gives view of the whole valley. The pass was an extremely difficult construction part, due to lack of proper equipment and fact that a solid limestone rock had to be cut 110 m in length and 17 m in depth. Sounds of hammers and light from fire torches resembled a scene from hell, which finally determined its name. There is no entrance fee to the museum, but be so kind and do leave a small amount of money.

Savjeti:

The Rabbit advises You to visit this museum. It consists of one building where various objects and pictures are displayed next to the descriptions of what happened. After that, You will visit the railway constructed by the prisioners of war. It takes around 2 hours to walk the complete pass (the path is around 3.5km long), but the beautiful nature makes it worth the walk.
