Hungarian cemetery
Hungarian cemetery
The beginning of the Hungarian cemetery started in the early 16th century, when a large number of Hungarians lived in these areas. The cemetery is located in the Osijek neighborhood Retfala, and is located within the Reformed Christian Church. Throughout history, the Hungarians from these parts exceed to the Protestantism, i.e. Calvinism. So at the begining in the cemetery primarily Calvinists were buried. Later, at the end of the 20th century, on cemetery were buried the dead of other nationalities and religion. There is certainly a thousand tombs and graves at the cemetery, and it is considered that two American pilots of the First World War who died in the city of Osijek are buried on this cemetery.
