Ivan Crnojević Monument (Cetinje-Montenegro)
Ivan Crnojević was the founder of Cetinje and one of the most prominent persons of Montenegrin history. This monument was erected to honor the mark the 500th anniversary of the city. It was raised in the center of Cetinje on The King Nicholas Square. The figure is made of bronze, holding the sword in its arms, a symbol of justice and a shield, a symbol of defense. It is the work of renowned academic artist Ante Gržetić. Ivan Crnojević ruled in the 15th century at the time of the invasion of the Venetians and domination of the Ottoman Empire. During the withdrawal before the onslaught of the Ottoman invaders, Crnojević moved the capital from the area of Skadar Lake, Žabljak and Oboda to the Cetinje Fields. His rule marked a completely new era in the history of Montenegro on the eve of the New Age, and he fought with numerous strikers. He was a noble, good educator, a skilled politician and an art expert, both of the Catholic West and of the Orthodox East.
