Ivo Andrić’s Home (Herceg Novi-Montenegro)
Ivo Andrić is a Croatian and Serbian writer from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1961. He built his house at Njegoševa Street at number 65 in Herceg Novi in 1964, when he moved with his wife Milica from Belgrade. It is about 850 meters from the Old town of Herceg Novi. After his death the city bought the house to serve culture and art. Over the years, there was a kindergarten the Writers’ Association of Herceg Novi in the house and, after which it was leased and served as a restaurant, against the public opinion. In the memorial room there were portraits of him and his wife and the Literary Community and the Herceg Novi Serbian Cultural Society “Prosveta” arranged literary evenings here. In recent years the house is closed, but it is going to be re-opened in honor of Ivo Andrić.
