At the beginning of the 20th century the entire existing urban – architectural complex was created, after the destruction of the feudal castle located on the site of the Judicial Palace. The Budapest architect G. Czigler designed the palace, while the Secession architect G. Rubinich was in charge for the retaining wall on the other side of the street . In 1904, the Palace of Justice was built in the place of the centuries old castle. The castle was the seat of the feudal lord, Captain of Rijeka. In the 18th century, the castle lost this function. In the early 20th century this historic building was demolished and the Judicial Palace took its place.
