Kamplin square
Kamplin square
The name of the Kamplin square derives from the Latin word campulus or campellus meaning meadow. It was historically used for various occasions. In the past, the square was the venue of knight jousting tournaments, and on the edges of the square there were spas and gyms. The square is also known as “Na Ciljah” (“On point”) because of the horsemen competition in javelin throwing. The Venetian providur Antionio Vinciguerra mentioned the competition as Palio in his reports. The competition was held twice a year. In the past, the square was the perfect location for the accommodation of public buildings such as the town hall, municipal offices and providur palaces.
