King Tvrtko’s Monument (Herceg Novi-Montenegro)
King Tvrtko’s Monument was set on Škver (shipyard), at the very entrance to the city from the sea, right to the Old town at the Žalo beach. King Tvrtko was the son of Vladislav Kotromanović and founder of Herceg Novi in 1382. Then the first fort was erected on the shore of the Topla Bay and the city was named Novi (New), as it is often called today. Tvrtko I. Kotromanović was a Bosnian ban in the period from 1353 to 1377, then the first Bosnian king until his death in 1391. During his rule, Bosnia experienced the greatest rise. The monument is over 5 meters tall and weighs more than one ton. It was created in Zagreb, and the author donated it to Herceg Novi.
