Lapidarium

Lapidarium
The City Museum Lapidarium was opened in 2006. It contains a collection of Novigrad stone monuments. The lapidary represents a museum collection consisting of 93 stone monuments that date back to the ancient times and the Middle Ages. The collection includes liturgical furniture, such as the altar panels, capitals, pilasters and architectural elements such as thresholds, coats of arms, lintels and more. The most important part of the museum is the early medieval collection containing Mauritius ciborium which is a rare example of Early Carolingian art. The collection had been located on the ground floor of the palace Rigo until 1994, but because of the deteriorating state of the monuments, the conservation and restoration procedures were carried out and the collection was moved.
