The story of the famous Paulina Hermann from the 19th Century is linked to the Mačkamama castle. She took care of the poor and helped the needy and animals, of which she loved cats the most. In addition to cats, she provided shelter for pigeons, dogs, wild cats, lions and other animals which led to her material and financial collapse. There were numerous rumours about Paulina Hermann because she was married twice, which was very intriguing and incomprehensible at that time. She was an important figure in the cultural and social life of Osijek and was friends with many prominent figures from the cultural life of Osijek. She died at the age of 82, and her monument was erected in front of the castle, in the industrial area.
