Nikola Host Park (Rijeka)
In addition to the Mlake Park, the Nikola Host Park is one of the oldest parks in Rijeka. It was created in the 19th century as a botanical garden next to the Androch Villa, when the Villa was still owned by the Archduke Joseph. The Nikola Host Park is situated on a rocky terrain. The Archduke Joseph was a lover and a connoisseur of the art of gardening, thus he adorned it with sculptures, exotic plants and fountains to make it look like an English garden, which was eventually lost. The Nikola Host Park was named after the Austrian botanist who took part in its planting, while the Androch Villa’s former place is now taken by the National Archives.
