Saint Blasie – Patron of Dubrovnik
Saint Blaise, patron of Dubrovnik, is celebrated since the 972. Traditionally, celebration begins on February, 2nd with releasing white doves. On that day, except ceremonies in the church, there is also a numerous other events outside the church, including concerts, exhibitions and similar. Many performers in costumes from Dubrovnik area and Konavle, colorful flags and Musketeers with guns attract the attention of citizens and tourists. On the day of celebration, February 3rd, numerous of believers from Dubrovnik and the surrounding area come to participate in the procession with banners on Stradun Street, while under canopy is the most important relic, Jesus’s powdery. Priests than give blessings of throat, because it is believed that St. Blaise protects from throat diseases.
