Peškera Defense Tower
The North Tower Peškera is located in the northeast part of the old town, or the Peškera Bay. It was built in 1473 by Francesco Bondulmiera. Around today’s peninsula and between the three towers, city walls were built that were separated from the mainland by a ravine. The former city gates were located on the arched entrance to the city, which was located next to the Tower. On the exterior part of the Tower, a few openings for loopholes and guns can be seen. The bottom of the Tower was originally cone-like, but later it was formed in the shape of a roller which increased its strength and reduced the damage caused by cannon balls. Today, the remains of the Tower can be seen from the promenade in the northern part of the city.
