Puppet Theater (Maribor-Slovenia)
The Maribor Puppet Theater was founded in 1973, with the association of two previous puppet theaters, the DPB Svoboda Pobrežje and KUD Jože Hermanko puppet theaters. The official beginning of theater activity was first performed play named ”Leteća krava” (Flying Cow) in 1974. The theater is located in the Minorities monastery in Lent, on the south-west end of the city walls. The theater consists of a large hall with 91 sitting places, an auditorium for an audience of 520 people, a small hall with 24 sitting places, and the outdoor garden which can host around 200 visitors. You can here watch interesting puppetry plays based on Slovenian children’s books and classical pieces. If You are interested in visiting this theater, it would be best to do so during the International Puppetry Festival, which is held every year since 1990. There are also workshops where children can make their own puppet and learn more about theater and puppetry.
