One of the most famous locations on Medvednica is the lake and excursion site Kraljičin zdenac (Queen’s Well). The well was named after the famous Black Queen, supposedly Barbara Celjska, and it is a source of drinking water. According to a legend, during the drought all lakes were dried out, except the one under the rule of the Black Queen. The locals went to that lake to get fresh water, but the queen refused to give it to them. Shortly after they found a new well which hadn’t previously existed, and drank from it. In the meantime, the queen’s lake dried out. Near the Queen’s well there is a hiking path and resting areas where you can relax. In the vicinity of the well there is also the famous “Lugareva kućica” (the hunter’s hut).
