Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre (Bangkok-Thailand)
In 1932, King Rama VII ordered the the construction of Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theater as a gift to the Thai people for the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Bangkok. It was officially opened in July 1933, when the first film on Thailand was shown. Apart from being the first air-conditioned cinema in South East Asia, Sala Chalermkrung is the venue for various shows, performances and exhibitions. It is nowaday known as the sight where the famous Khon dance under the masks, which is based on Ramayana ep, is being performed. The Khon dance was previously performed only at the Royal Palace, but it is now available to everyone in Sala Chalermkrung on the edge of the China Town in Bangkok. Khon is performed in lavish and extravagant costumes by telling old tales and legends of ancient Thai culture through dance and music.
