St. Mark’s Chapel
In Pirnica, next to the hotel and along the famous Vela Beach, stands the Church of St. Mark. The church dates back to the 16th century. The church was built in Romanesque style, and beneath it are remains of an ancient basilica, mosaics dating from the 5th century and the baptistery from the time of early Christianity, which along the Baška Tablet is one of the most famous symbols of Christianity in Croatia. The baptistery, among other things, consists of a large circular well in which adults were christened. Numerous archaeological researches have shown that the Baška valley had a large population in the past.
