St. Quirinus Cathedral
The Cathedral of St. Quirinus and gallery
The Church of St. Quirinus is a beautiful Romanesque building. It is built of white stone and dedicated to the patron saint of Krk – St. Quirinus. What makes the church particularly interesting are its two storeys and its apse facing South. It is considered to have been built in the 12th century. The upper church is dedicated to St. Quirinus, and the lower to St. Margarita, and both differ in their interior. Next to the eastern apse there is a passage leading to the cathedral and the Church of St. Margarite. The church has three apses and a semi-cylindrical end with Romanesque arcades and brushed red stone. The lower Church is opened even today, while the upper part of the church of St. Quirinus was turned into a museum.
