St. Vitus’ Cathedral
St. Vitus’ Cathedral
The construction of the Cathedral of St. Vitus in Rijeka began in 1638 according to the project of the Jesuit architect G. Brian. Originally, this was the site of an older church bearing the same name. The interior of the Cathedral of St. Vitus was built in the Baroque style. In 1725, a substantial modification of the Cathedral of St. Vitus’ took place when a new manager added a gallery. The legend says that this happened because the Jesuits did not want the liturgy monastic novitiate to be mixed with the common people, especially with the beautiful girls of Rijeka.
