Sveti Lovreč
Sveti Lovreč
One of the oldest fortified cities of Istria is located between Vrsar and Poreč, named after St. Lawrence, the patron saint of the city. St. Lawrence (Cro. Lovro) or simply Lovreč was first mentioned in the eleventh century as “Castrum Sancti Laurentti”. The city features the parish church of St. Lawrence, which dates back to the 2nd century. Next to the church, in Lovreč you can visit the bell tower, the old paved square, as well as towers and walls that have protected this place from enemies ever since ancient times. The day of St. Lawrence, the early Christian martyr, is celebrated on August 10, on the same day as the day of the municipality which bears the same name.
