Synagogue memorial plaque
During the first half of the 19th century there was an increase in the number of Jewish community members which was located in the Upper Town. As a result, the construction of the synagogue began in 1866, and was completed three years later, in 1869. It was built in the Županijska Street, according to a project of the famous architect Theodore Stern, while Alois Flambach is credited with its construction. The Osijek synagogue with architectural elements of historicism was burned in April 1941, and nine years later it was completely destroyed. A residential building was constructed on its site and a memorial plaque was built in memory of the synagogue.
