Temple of St Luke (Kotor-Montenegro)
Temple of St Luke was built in 1195, as evidenced by the inscription on the west facade. It is located in the Old town on the St Luke Square, near the church of St Nicholas, and is one of the most visited churches in the Old town core. The temple features the characteristics of Romanesque architecture and is the only building in the city that did not suffer any major damage during the earthquakes that hit Montenegro. Of the frescoes in which the entire interior of the temple was painted, only fragments on the southern wall were left to this day. This church was Catholic, but after the earthquake in 1667 it is given to the Orthodox.Ttherefore, there are two altars in the church. The floor in the church paved the tombstones of Kotor people, since they were buried in the church until the middle of the 20th century.
