Thai Boat Museum
Thai Boat Museum (Ayutthaya-Thailand)
This unique museum is actually founded by and located in the house belonging to a passionate boat lover – Professor Paitoon Khawmala. His spiritual bond with river resulted in dedicating his life to his passion and opening this museum in 1995, with sole purpose to show to the younger generations a piece of history that is slowly dying. Namely, wood as the main material is slowly disappearing from modern ship building. The museum houses a collection of more than 100 handmade miniatures of Thai and Chinese boats, among them are also the famous Royal Barges. There is also a small library inside the house. Since this museum is actually a private house that is run by the family only, visitors are kindly asked to give a call prior to their visit and to leave some money, even though there is no entrance fee.
