The Red Fićo
The Red Fićo
The Red Fićo is one of the most recognisable symbols of the Homeland War, namely one particular event and its main actor Branko Breškić. In fact, on June 27th, 1991, Jugoslav National Army tanks were moving through the Vukovarska Street westward. The car owner, who was also a Croatian defender, used his car to overtake the tanks and put him as an obstacle to the tanks as a sign of resistance. Naturally, the tanks smashed the car and Branko Brešić jumped out of it in order to save his own life. This event has become a symbol of resistance, heroism, courage, determination and bravery of the Croatian people. The recording of the event at the crossroad of Vukovarska Street and Trpimirova Street was shown on TVs across Europe and the world, and the red Fićo became a part of Croatian history.
