The Walker (Šetač)
The Walker (Šetač)
The Walker is a recognizable two meter sculpture in the city of Osijek which has been located at Trg Slobode (Square of Liberty) since 1974. Its author is the academic sculptor Stjepan Gračan. It is a Bronze statue of the Croatian writer August Cesarec captured walking in motion, which was given a name by the people of Osijek. The Walker is the first street sculpture in Croatia and Europe. The popularity of this sculpture increased when the Walker was put on traffic lights in the city center, which was a great foresight by Tomislav Levak. The sculpture was not destroyed during the Croatian War of Independence, so it remained one of Osijek’s most popular landmarks.
