Town Hall
Town Hall
The modern main square, named after the Croatian king Tomislav, is dominated by the Town Hall. It was the first stone house in the 16th century, built in 1523 at its present location by the owner of the Old Town, Juraj Brandenburg. Soon it became the headquarters of the city magistrate (i.e. the rihtar) and later mayors. In 1776, there was a fire and the building was rebuilt in 1791, when it acquired its present appearance. The facade is decorated with a balcony and a stone coat of arms of the city of Varaždin, which has since 1464 been the official emblem of the city. In the Salon of the City Hall is a memorial collection of Miljenko Stančić.
