Twin Gates of Pula
In the past, Pula was surrounded by city walls and it was possible to enter it only through a small number of doors. One of them were the Twin Gates of Pula. The gates have a simple construction, and they were named “Twin Gates” due to two arched passages through which one enters. Adorned with three pilasters with capitals, the entire assembly is connected by means of relief wreath. On the arches one can still see slots for the landing of grids which served to closing the gates. The upper part of the gates contains a white marble slab on which the name of Lucius Menatius Priscus is mentioned, who provided funds for the construction of a city water supply. The Twin Gates will take you to the Archaeological Museum of Istria and the Small Roman Theatre. Right next to the Twin Gates, the remains of the octagonal mausoleum were found, which dates back to the 3rd century.
