Vlaška Church (Cetinje-Montenegro)
The Church of the Virgin’s Birth is known as the Vlaška church and was erected in the 15th century, making it the oldest building in Cetinje. Today’s appearance dates back to 1864. In the church’s yard You will see a unique fence made of the tubes of rifles seized in the liberation war against the Turks between 1858 and 1878. Next to the entrance there are tombstones from the 14th and 15th centuries. One legend says that these are the monuments of Baja Pivljanin and his wife, and another legend claims to belong to Ivan Borojević and his wife Jelica. The Vlaška church together with the monument to Lovćen’s patroness is one of the most recognizable motifs of Cetinje. In this church, King Nikola and Milena Vukotić married in 1860.
