Wat Thammikarat
Wat Wora Pho and Wat Rakhang (Phuket-Thailand)
Wat Thammikarat is assumed to be the predecessor of Ayutthaya, with its parts dating back to the 12th century. It is one of the less visited parts of the ancient ruins of Ayutthaya. One of the main reasons to visit the Wat Thammikarat is the chedi (pillar), which is surrounded by numerous lion statues, the sermon hall and the tree that grows from it. Today, new buildings are built around the ruins, thus integrating it into the rest of the city. The temple itself is still active today, since the monks reside there. Visiting the temple is free, but it is a custom to give a certain amount of the money at the entrance as a contribution to the monastery and monks.
