Well of Life
Well of Life
The most famous Croatian sculptor and artist, Ivan Meštrović, is the author of this masterpiece, located on the Marshal Tito Square in front of the National theatre. The statue was installed here in 1912 and symbolizes the well of life. Naked bodies around the fountain have the natural proportions, which makes them look like they are alive. The surface of the well is smooth, soft and rounded, and there are no sharp and rectangular edges or regular geometrical shapes. The well’s regular shape is contrasted to the figures around it.
