Alma M. Karlin Statue (Celje-Slovenia)
One of Celje’s most famous landmarks is the statue of Alma M. Karlin. Alma Karlin was born in 1889 in Celje and died there in 1950. She lived in a small house in the Pečovik. She was a famous writer, world traveler, polyglot, theosoph, and collector. After the First World War, she travelled through most of the world, which makes her one of the most famous female adventurers of all time. During her travels, she gathered a large ethnological collection, which she later described in her books. Permanent exhibition about her life and travels can be found at the Regional museum Celje, where a beautiful life-size statue of her was erected in 2009.
