Vela Placa square
The main square of the town of Krk is the renaissance Vela Placa Square or Plateau magna. The square was first mentioned in 1263. The lodge and town hall were situated on the square in the Middle Ages, which is why it was the administrative centre of Krk. The Town Hall and Courthouse were situated in Torrione, a large square-shaped tower built in 1489. Archaeological research confirmed the existence of antiquity walls and the ruins of the pre-Romanesque church of St. Stephen. A hexagon well with relief plates from the 16th century is located in the centre of the square.
