The fortress of Peovica (Mirabela)
Built in the 13th century, the Fortress of Peovica (Mirabela) was part of the defence system of Omiš – the old pirates used it as a lookout over the Channel of Brač. The castle consists of four floors and a lookout. Over time, it was severely demolished. During a heavy storm in 1988, the top of the fortress was struck by lightning. After that the fortress was restored to its original form and today it stands as one of the most popular landmarks of Omiš. The buildings in the old part of Omiš were built in the Renaissance and popular Mediterranean style in the 16th and 19th century.
